HACSB currently assists over 3,000 households, largely comprised of working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and persons with disabilities. 

Our housing programs are recognized locally and nationally as innovative solutions to the most critical affordable housing challenges. We address the housing needs in our community with expertise and compassion, with attention to the environment and sustainability, and provide support for our residents to reach for their potentials.    

To receive assistance under any program operated by the Housing Authority, applicants must meet program income limits and other eligibility requirements.

We  offer the following housing programs and have additional exciting new properties in-planning or under construction.

 Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program | MORE INFO
A rent subsidy program that assists eligible low-income persons and their families in obtaining affordable, decent, and safe housing by paying a portion of their rent. Eligible applicants locate a unit in the private rental market. Rent must be withing the current Allowed Payment Standard. INFORMATION FOR LANDLORDS

 HUD Assisted Public Housing PROPERTY TOUR | DOWNLOAD APPLICATION
The Housing Authority owns and manages 492 units throughout the city of Santa Barbara. These apartment units are offered at affordable rents to eligible families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Income and rent are reviewed annually.

 Rental Solutions Program | MORE INFO
The Housing Authority’s innovative Rental Solutions Program is designed to assist members of our workforce and of our community, who earn up to 80% of the Area Median Income for Santa Barbara. The program serves those who are increasingly caught in the gap between skyrocketing rents and ineligibility for other assistance.

Casa de Las Fuentes (Award-winning Downtown Worker Housing) offers beautiful new studio & one-bedroom units available to downtown employeers; below market fixed monthly rents from $481 to $851. Garden Street Apartments include 12 units designated for eligible downtown workers.

 For Seniors (62 years of age or older) | MORE INFO
The Housing Authority has many housing opportunities for seniors.  In addition to the specifically designed senior only housing, seniors may also apply for any of our other Housing Programs including public housing and Section 8 housing.

 

 Low Income Tax Credit Program | DOWNLOAD APPLICATION

Apartments are offered at affordable rent to seniors (must be 62 years of age or older) and other applicants meeting specific eligibility criteria. Income limits and rents must be at or below 60% of area median income. The Low Income Tax Credit Program encourages for-profit and non-profit organizations to build affordable housing. Applicants benefit from increased access to affordable, below-market rents.

 

 Garden Street Apartments: Mental Health Supportive Services & Downtown Workers Housing

Garden Street Apartments was designed by the Mental Health Association of Santa Barbara County to offer affordable housing to low income residents with a mental illness, as well as individuals gainfully employed within Santa Barbara’s downtown business district.
