Artisan Court  Adopt-A-Room Campaign

Artisan Court Rendering

Dear Community Member:

RE:  ADOPT-A-ROOM CAMPAIGN TO BENEFIT RESIDENTS OF ARTISAN COURT

The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara (HACSB) is currently constructing a 55-unit studio apartment complex in downtown Santa Barbara.   It is called “Artisan Court” and is located at 422 East Cota Street.  It  is due to be completed in February of 2011 and will address a critical community need:  affordable housing for lower income members of our community, specifically youth aging out of foster care, disabled persons and downtown  workers.

The Housing Authority, in partnership with its nonprofit affiliate, Second Story, is looking to local vendors, businesses and individuals in our community to contribute to its “Adopt a Room” campaign, aimed at raising resources to furnish the 55 studio apartments.  We are asking local stores, businesses and individuals to consider contributing to this Adopt-a-Room Campaign in the following ways: (1) Through donations from retailers in the form of gift cards or store credit; (2) By providing discounts on store merchandise (home furnishings); or (3) By “Adopting a Room,” at a cost of $350 per apartment.  Your much-needed donation will allow us to furnish each of these studio apartments with basic household items, so that the tenants occupying these units—many who come with nothing of their own— will truly have a safe and comfortable “place to call home.”

The Housing Authority is a local agency, established in 1969, for the purpose of providing safe, decent and quality affordable housing and supportive services to eligible low income residents of Santa Barbara.  Our nonprofit affiliate, Second Story Associates, was created in 2007 with the expressed purpose of expanding opportunities for residents of affordable housing to be successful and advance socially and economically.

We thank you in advance for your generosity and support.  Please know that contributions of any size are appreciated and will make a tremendous difference in the lives of the individuals moving in to Artisan Court.  For more information about contributing to our campaign, please contact Alice Villarreal Redit or Andrea Fink at 965-1071, or visit our website at www.2nd-story.orgAll donations are tax deductible, and receipts will be provided upon request.
