The Housing Authority’s innovative Rental Solutions Program is designed to assist members of our workforce and of our community, who earn up to 80% of the Area Median Income for Santa Barbara. The program serves those who are increasingly caught in the gap between skyrocketing rents and ineligibility for other assistance.

Apartment units offered at below maket, fixed rents to eligible families, seniors, and persons with disabilities.
- Units owned by the Housing Authority
- Studio to 3 bedroom apartment units
- Below market fixed monthly rents range from $500 to $1,888
- No rent subsidy
- In 2006, 14 apartment complexes with 163 units throughout city
- Income is reviewed every 5 years, rent is reviewed annually
These developments have fewer income eligibility restrictions than our Public Housing and Section 8 programs. However, you must be at 80% or below Area Median Income to qualify for rental of these units.
- Individuals and families, recent college graduates, and professionals
- Office workers, retail and service workers, employees of nonprofits, and small business owners
While the Housing Authority provides long-term programs and support for people with special needs and with limited income such as frail seniors, veteran or military personnel, and people with disabilities, the majority of Housing Authority residents are working individuals and families who achieve independence from any form of assistance within 3-7 years.
In order to receive assistance under any program operated by the Housing Authority, an applicant must meet current income limits based on household size and other requirements of the specific housing program.
