HACSB encourages and supports the personal and economic advancement of its residents. HACSB offers parenting classes, job training and skill enhancement programs, counseling, in-home support services and educational services including homework clubs, English as a Second Language, tutoring and computer training.
Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a key HACSB resident services program. Section 8 participants and Public Housing residents set specific goals such as staring a business or buying a home. As the family’s rent increases as a result of an increase in their household income, a matching amount is deposited into the interest-earning account. When the family’s goals are met and they have completed the program, they are awarded the principal and interest from the account.
